bringing ideas & talent together

my work

I feel so thankful for all the support you have given me. Each seed you planted in my being. I have embraced my goal to enter into international development. I have attended many meetings here and have found my voice and speak with growing passion and a touch of knowledge. I have been well received and i feel confident in my learnings and skills. i realized today i hardly ever write on my work, so as the might graces the skies and i wait for sleep, i shall share a little. my days start after i have had enough sleep. First i go for a cup of tea, then head to the office. I say hello, set up my laptop and see he anyone has questions or needs anything.I also search for folks i want to get input from, for each day there is a shifting of our 250+ staff from the five offices. Each day brings something new. Strategic plan workshop development, hr policy and handbook formulation, gender mainstreaming integration along with capacity building and advocacy as cross cutting themes across all these areas.
Then a little web design (& content management ) org branding, structural development & training. Some advocacy and proposal editing. This is all done with a particasatory approach too so... There is always someone i am sitting with or consulting with and reviewing documents. Not to mention information, communication and project management. So all in all i have a six month plan in the works which has a 4 tiered approach.
1. Information gathering, org learnings (both verbal and documented),
2. Document editing and creation,
3. Policy finalization
4. Actionable Strategic plan that goes hand in hand with policy. My organisation is great and our goals for my placement match so i am excited each day by the work. Things take time in bangladesh so i am multitasking projects to keep in line with my six month goals. Feel free to ask me about this stuff. I have loads of resources i could share. Don't forget about my wiki iki and feel free to keep adding to the information. :) I am surrounded by overwhelming beauty and extreme poverty. What amazes me the most is the ability of the hard core poor to smile and greet each day with such warmth. I live on under 5 dollars a day. It is manageable but far from the comforts of home. I realise how spoiled we are in the north. Without worry of our basic needs: clean drinking water, sanitation, a stable roof, and the knowledge of security. We take this for granted. Each day i worry about most of these things. And i am considered rich in this society for i can hire help to walk my water 3 blocks. I take the freedom to go to the market where many women would not venture. I have adopted a few little girls (in a sense) for under one dollar i bought them school clothes. For ten dollars i support a whole family. And i take ten dollars a month, twenty cents per person who is disabled, elderly or a child on the street. Then the rest is for me. One week of groceries in canada. Unless you are here you could never fathom the devastation corruption, debt and natural disaster which have ravaged and pillaged this land and the people. It is hard to find the words, but i hope you will take a moment and consider supporting rights based international development. Either in funding or in your personal and political actions. Our policy affects all those in the south. Thank you :) ps while i wrote this women were speed walking on the roof in the pitch black next door for they cannot venture out during the day without a male escort.
